Jared Frederick has a lifelong passion for American History. Prior to his career in academia, Frederick served as a park ranger at Gettysburg National Military Park and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park.
Having served as a commentator on the American Battlefield Trust’s online Civil War in Four series, Frederick has also appeared on C-SPAN, PBS, PCN, in numerous National Park Service productions, and various online documentaries.
Since childhood, Jared Frederick has been captivated by the people and ideas that dramatically shaped history. For years, he has shared his passion for the past as an author, artist, park ranger, professor, and YouTube host.
Jared Frederick is an assistant teaching professor of history and public history at Penn State Altoona. He has a PhD in American Studies from Penn State Harrisburg and a MA in history from West Virginia University. He also owns History Matters Publications and has worked as a park ranger at Gettysburg and Harpers Ferry.

Jared Frederick. By the time that Altoona native Jared Frederick graduated from Bishop Guilfoyle in 2006, he had already established in his mind that he wanted to do something with history. He says that he had known since fourth or fifth grade that he wanted to make a career in history.
