Ashok Kumar (born Kumudlal Ganguly; 13 October 1911 – 10 December 2001), was an Indian actor who attained iconic status in Indian cinema. He was considered the first big star of Hindi cinema as well as the first lead actor to play an anti-hero.
Himanshu Rai was the person who gave him his first break and forced him to enter the cinema world as an actor. Ashok Kumar with Himanshu Rai. With his superb singing and charismatic performance, he became the first hero in the Indian Film Industry whose film “Kismet, 1943” crossed one crore amount at the box office.
