Götz George (German pronunciation: [ɡœts geˈɔɐ̯ gə] ⓘ; 23 July 1938 – 19 June 2016) was a German actor, the son of actor couple Berta Drews and Heinrich George. His arguably best-known role is that of Duisburg detective Horst Schimanski in the TV crime series Tatort.

Jun 27, 2016 · BERLIN (AP) — German actor Goetz George, much beloved for his role as hard-nosed but good-hearted inspector in the country’s iconic “Tatort” TV crime series, has died. He was 77. The actor died June 19 after a short illness, but his agent didn’t immediately release further information, the dpa news agency reported.
