Gustaw Holoubek graduated from B. Nowodworski High School in Krakow. In 1939 he participated in the defense of Poland as a member of a military training unit. He was taken prisoner and sent to the prisoner of war camp at Altengrabow, from where he was later transferred to a camp in Toruń.
