The foremost male interpreter of the works of playwright Eugene O'Neill since the mid-1950s, Jason Robards owes his career to the celebrated 1956 Circle in the Square revival of the playwright's "The Iceman Cometh," directed by Jose Quintero, which thrust the versatile actor from obscurity into the limelight.
Born in 1922, in Chicago, Robards was the son of a well-known actor of the 1920s and early '30s, Jason Robards, Sr. After graduating from Hollywood High School, he enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and became a radioman stationed at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
