- Origin of Miracle on 34th Street. In discussing the movie, AMC’s Backstory offered up this inspiration for the film: “The story of Miracle on 34th Street began, appropriately, on Christmas Eve of 1944.

Miracle on 34th Street (initially released as The Big Heart in the United Kingdom) [2] [3] is a 1947 American Christmas comedy-drama film released by 20th Century-Fox, written and directed by George Seaton and based on a story by Valentine Davies. It stars Maureen O'Hara, John Payne, Natalie Wood, and Edmund Gwenn.
Edmund Gwenn (born Edmund John Kellaway; 26 September 1877 – 6 September 1959) was an English actor. On film, he is best remembered for his role as Kris Kringle in the Christmas film Miracle on 34th Street (1947), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and the corresponding Golden Globe Award.
