He competed in multiple disciplines including Sportscars, Formula One and DTM. He had his most success in Formula One, entering over 150 Grands Prix and winning three.

Er startete von 1994 bis 2003 bei 157 Grand-Prix-Rennen in der Formel 1 und wurde dort 1997 Vizeweltmeister. Von 2004 bis 2006 fuhr Frentzen in der DTM, anschließend war er bei Langstreckenrennen und in der Speedcar Series aktiv.
