Oakes Ames (January 10, 1804 – May 8, 1873) was an American businessman, investor, and politician. He was a member of the United States House of Representatives from Massachusetts.
Oakes Ames (born Jan. 10, 1804, Easton, Mass., U.S.—died May 8, 1873, Easton) was a leading figure in the Crédit Mobilier scandal following the U.S. Civil War. Ames left school at age 16 to enter his father’s shovel company, Oliver Ames & Sons.
