Team History. The National Football League awarded its 16th franchise to New Orleans on November 1, 1966. Appropriately, it was All Saints Day. In mid-December, 28-year-old John W. Mecom Jr., a successful Texas and Louisiana businessman, became the majority stockholder.
Since 1975, the team plays its home games at Caesars Superdome [8] after using Tulane Stadium during its first eight seasons. Founded by John W. Mecom Jr., David Dixon, and the city of New Orleans on November 1, 1966, [1] [2] [9] [10] [11] the Saints joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1967.

In the mid-1980s, Hall of Famer Jim Finks turned New Orleans into winners. From 1987 to 1992, the team advanced to the playoffs four times and won the NFC Western Division in 1991. Finally, in 2009, the Saints reached the top of the football world with a victory in Super Bowl XLIV.
