The Ross River Dam is a rock and earthfill-filled embankment dam across the Ross River, located between Kelso and Mount Stuart in the City of Townsville in northern Queensland, Australia. Built initially for flood control, Lake Ross, the impoundment created by the dam, serves as one of the major potable water supplies for the region.
Ross River Dam is a dual purpose dam providing water for the community and attenuating floods by reducing peak inflows into the dam and releasing controlled smaller outflow into Ross River over the confined spillway.
Ross Dam is a 540-foot (160 m)-high, 1,300-foot (400 m)-long concrete thin arch dam across the Skagit River, forming Ross Lake. The dam is in Washington state, while Ross Lake extends 23 miles (37 km) north to British Columbia, Canada.

Nov 24, 2023 · Townsville’s fishing enthusiasts could soon be able to throw a line into Ross River Dam after Council voted to open it for recreational purposes. Councillors voted to adopt a staged approach to utilising the dam for recreational activities to be rolled out over a three-stage process.
Ross River Dam is an interesting bit of water infrastructure where it is possible to walk along the embankment forming the dam itself. It is possible to spot some varied wildlife (rock wallabies in particular) and plenty of birds can be spotted.
