She went to Abington Senior High School, which is the school her movie Can’t Hardly Wait is based on. Kaplan attended the Tisch School of the Arts of New York University (NYU).
Deborah Kaplan is a filmmaker who co-wrote and co-directed Can't Hardly Wait and Josie and the Pussycats. She also created and wrote Liza on Demand and Mary + Jane, and was married to actor Breckin Meyer.
