Lars von Trier (né Trier; 30 April 1956) is a Danish film director and screenwriter. Beginning in the late-1960s as a child actor working on Danish television series Secret Summer , von Trier's career has spanned more than five decades.
In 1995, his dying mother told her son on her deathbed that the man he believed to be his father, in fact wasn't his biological father. Following her death, he tracked down his biological father, who after four combative meetings told him that, if he wanted to speak to him again, he could do it through his lawyer.

Dogville is a 2003 arthouse experimental avant-garde film written and directed by Lars von Trier, and starring an ensemble cast led by Nicole Kidman, Lauren Bacall, Paul Bettany, Chloë Sevigny, Stellan Skarsgård, Udo Kier, Ben Gazzara, Patricia Clarkson, Harriet Andersson, and James Caan with John Hurt narrating.
