Karel Lamač (27 January 1897 – 2 August 1952) was a Czech film director, actor, screenwriter, producer and singer. He directed more than 100 films in Czechoslovakia, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

Karel Lamac was born on 27 January 1897 in Prague, Bohemia, Austria-Hungary. He was a director and actor, known for Wo die Lerche singt (1936), Svejk na fronte (1926) and Eine Freundin so goldig wie Du (1930). He was married to Anny Ondra. He died on 2 August 1952 in Hamburg, Germany.
Režisér, scénárista, střihač, textař, zpěvák a herec Karel Lamač se narodil 27. ledna 1897 v Praze do rodiny zámožného košířského lékárníka Karla Lamače st. Odešel ze studií farmacie a elektrotechniky a založil vlastní orchestr, hrál u ochotníků a vystupoval jako salonní kouzelník.
Lamač se podílel na 260 českých a zahraničních snímcích. Je autorem průkopnické knihy „Jak se píše filmové libreto“ (1923). Karel Lamač zemřel po těžké nemoci ledvin a jater 2. srpna 1952 v Hamburku ve věku pouhých padesáti pěti let, v blízkosti své milované Anny Ondrákové.

Karel Lamač (1897 – 1952) was a Czech film director, actor, screenwriter, producer and singer. After starting as a combat cameraman in WW1, Lamač went on to direct more than 100 films in Czechoslovakia, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
And Karel Lamač had been almost everything in the film industry, too. He proved himself as a versatile artist both on local and European scale, working as a director, screenwriter, actor, pruducer, filmmaker, editor, lyricist, singer, cameraman, inventor and above all, a pioneer of Czech silent cinema.
After returning to Germany, Ondra formed the production company Ondra-Lamač-Films with Karel Lamač, which lasted until 1936. Lamač directed her in several silent films, acted with her in films directed by other filmmakers, and continued to work together after her marriage to Max Schmeling.
