This tower sits on top of Prospect Hill, in the northwestern end of Worcester. One of the City's prominent citizens erected this tower as a monument to honor George Bancroft, who among many other great achievements, founded the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis. G. Bancroft was born at the foot of this hill, thus the choice of site.

Bancroft Tower stands northwest of downtown Worcester, in Salisbury Park, a public park west of Park Avenue and south of Drury Lane. It is a two-story stone structure, built of boulders and cobbles, with a rock-faced granite exterior.
