Historic, upscale, and laidback, Atlantic Beach is a residential seaside community with beach bungalows bordering generous sweeps of empty sand. On the beach, you might see surfers scoping out the waves or riding them, as well as families, couples, and groups of friends.
The farthest north in Jacksonville’s beaches community, Atlantic Beach has a rich history of being an esteemed vacation destination dating back to the early 1900s. Today, visitors can experience fine dining, upscale accommodations, outdoor activities and more just steps from the ocean.
Atlantic Beach is a city in Duval County, Florida, United States and the second largest of the Jacksonville Beaches communities. When the majority of communities in Duval County consolidated with Jacksonville in 1968, Atlantic Beach, along with Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, and Baldwin, remained quasi-independent.
- Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park. In Mayport on Atlantic Beach’s northern line there’s 1.5 miles of spellbinding shoreline to visit. On the shore is a perfect undeveloped beach, with nothing more than walkovers on the dunes and the endless ocean.
- Beaches Town Center. Where Atlantic Boulevard arrives at the ocean there’s a lively shopping and dining district, overlapping with Neptune Beach. Beaches Town Center is my kind of place, with walkable palm-lined streets, a wealth of boutiques, a yoga studio, fitness center, a watersports outfitter, and two oceanfront hotels.
- Atlantic Beach Access. On the shore of Atlantic beach there’s two whole miles of white sandy beaches. These can be reached at 14 public access points.
- Timucuan Ecological & Historic Preserve. Cross the St. Johns River and you’ll enter a National Preserve with nearly 50,000 acres of marshes, dunes, and hardwood forests.
