The property contains 37 preserved animal effigy, conical and linear mounds believed to have been constructed around 800 AD - 1100 AD.

This is a park that has 2 sections. The main attraction is a series of Native Ameircan mounds. To do it right, you need to take a good look at the map. The mounds are obviously quite old, and 20 years ago and earlier, were not maintained and just left to evolve naturally.

Nitschke Mounds Park is 54 acres of prairie, woodland, and, is home to a pre-historic Native American archaeological site with 37 visibly remaining burial mounds. Research estimates there were originally about 100 burial mounds within this park and the surrounding area.
This new park (apparently created in 2003) highlights about 39 animal effigy, conical and linear mounds. There are some really cool effigy mound shapes that I haven't found to be very common in other parks, such as dog and buffalo. There is a trail that loops around most all of the mounds.
