Mount Taylor (Navajo: Tsoodził, Navajo pronunciation: [tsʰòːtsɪ̀ɬ]) is a dormant stratovolcano in northwest New Mexico, northeast of the town of Grants. It is the high point of the San Mateo Mountains [a] and the highest point in the Cibola National Forest .
Mount Taylor is a massive, extinct volcano located about 50 miles west of Albuquerque, New Mexico near the town of Grants. The mountain stands by itself in the vast high desert region of Northwestern New Mexico, so the views from the summit are spectacular.

Mount Taylor Peak, at an elevation of 11,301 feet, stands approximately one mile above the Rio San Jose 12 miles to the south (Hunt, 1938).
