The Columbus Museum of Art ( CMA) is an art museum in downtown Columbus, Ohio. Formed in 1878 as the Columbus Gallery of Fine Arts (its name until 1978), [3] it was the first art museum to register its charter with the state of Ohio.
A leading modern and realist artist, George Bellows (1882-1925) was born and educated in Columbus, Ohio, before leaving for New York City to study art. Housed within the Columbus Museum of Art, the Bellows Center includes a gallery and study space for visiting scholars and students and hosts public events throughout the year.
