Seven Cities of Gold (1955) is based on the true story of a Spanish expedition into California in 1769, led by the soldier Gaspar de Portola. As played by Anthony Quinn, his orders are to lead a group to colonize the territory and search for the possibly mythical "seven cities of gold."
