Goal! (also known as Goal! The Dream Begins) is a 2005 British sports drama film directed by Danny Cannon from a screenplay by Mike Jefferies, Adrian Butchart, Dick Clement, and Ian La Frenais. [3] It is the first installment in the Goal! trilogy and stars Kuno Becker, Alessandro Nivola, Marcel Iureș, Stephen Dillane, and Anna Friel.
Like millions of kids around the world, Santiago harbors the dream of being a professional footballer... However, living in the Barrios section of Los Angeles, he thinks it is only that--a dream. Until one day an extraordinary turn of events has him trying out for Premiership club Newcastle United.

Santiago Muñez, a young immigrant living in the barrios of Los Angeles, has an impossible dream - to become a professional soccer player. Unexpectedly getting a tryout with one of England's premier football clubs, Newcastle United, Santiago finds himself totally alone in a world where soccer is a religion and the players are treated like gods.
In Newcastle, Santiago undergoes a rough initiation at the hands of the hardened soccer pros, gets his first experience of soccer in the mud, and almost loses his place on the team because of his asthma. What saves him is an accidental friendship with the team's superstar Gavin Harris ( Alessandro Nivola ), a party animal.
