Lt. Columbo investigates the death of pro football team owner 'Big' Fred McCain who was struck by a hit and run driver early in the morning while out jogging. There's no evidence it was a murder, but the police investigate all high profile deaths as a matter of routine.
In A Bird in the Hand..., a gambling addict desperately turns to his rich uncle for money, then plots to kill him when he refuses. Things go awry when the uncle is killed in a hit-and-run while his gardener is killed by the gambler's original murder plan!
