It is famously known as the setting for the a 1957 World War Two epic Bridge over the River Kwai. Kwai River Bridge history. The railway ran for 250 miles from Ban Pong, Thailand to Thanbyuzayat, Burma and is now known as the Death Railway.
Synopsis. In the middle of World War II, two prisoners of war are burying a corpse in the graveyard of a Japanese POW camp in southern Burma. One, American Navy Commander Shears ( William Holden ), is revealed to routinely bribe guards to ensure he is put on the sick list, which allows him to avoid hard labour.
