Bored with serving as official hostess at political events for her wealthy father, Mary Smith (Merle Oberon) goes to a bar, which is promptly raided. Displeased, her father sends her to Palm Beach with her two maids, who take her on a blind date, where she meets taciturn cowboy Stretch Willoughby (Gary Cooper).
