The Suspect is a 1944 film noir directed by Robert Siodmak, set in Edwardian times, London, 1902. Te film is based on the novel “This Way Out,” by James Ronald which, in turn, was loosely based on the sensational Dr. Crippen murder trial of 1910.
In 1902 London, unhappily-married Philip Marshall meets unemployed, depressed young Mary Gray. Their deepening friendship, though physically innocent, is discovered by Philip's wife, who threatens him with exposure and scandal, driving him to kill her.
