This was produced ten years after the war had ended and three years after America had ended its military occupation of Japan, but you would never really know it from this film. There are no bombed out buildings shown, no mentions of the war.

The narrator expresses a thought that every city has its own Ginza, a model of luxury. Undeniably true, but each of those districts hides a darker underbelly where, whether living or dead, the underclass still lay servant to furthering the falsehood of paradise.
