The Wedding Party is a 1969 American film farce created as a joint effort by Sarah Lawrence theater professor Wilford Leach, and two of his students, protégé Brian De Palma and Cynthia Munroe. It was bankrolled by Stanley Borden, owner of American Films, De Palma's mentor and employer, who allowed De Palma to produce the film on company time.

We usually look back on a famous filmmaker's early films to find overlooked gems, or perhaps just to celebrate their early struggles. Brian De Palma has had a checkered career, to say the least, but back in the middle seventies he was in the running as one of the most promising film school prodigies, right beside Scorsese, Coppola, Spielberg and Lucas.

The main reason Wedding Party is noteworthy is that it’s Brian De Palma's first film, although actually his third released, and isn't really a proper film. Rather, this was a project of Wilford Leach, who at the time was teaching drama at Sarah Lawerence College, in collaboration with two of his students, De Palma and Cynthia Munroe.
