Internationally acclaimed and Oscar-nominated filmmaker Mike Leigh portrays one of the bloodiest episodes in British history, the infamous Peterloo Massacre of 1819, where government-backed cavalry charged into a peaceful crowd of 60,000 that gathered in Manchester, England to demand democratic reform.
This animation depicts the sequence of events on 16th March 1819 in Manchester, known as the Peterloo Massacre. It was created as an exercise to better understand what happened that day, using various written accounts, archive maps and expert advice from Dr Robert Poole from the University of Central Lancashire and produced by Ocean CAD.
