Following the Algerian War, Georges Montero (Claude Brasseur), a Pied-Noir living in his hometown of Oran, Algeria, decides to leave his canning factory for eye surgery in Paris. Once in Paris, he is reunited with his sister (Marthe Villalonga) and friends who emigrated from Algeria. While his friends and family try to convince him to move to Paris, Georges forges a friendship with his eye doctor, Tarek (Roschdy Zem), a Frenchman with Arab roots who has forsaken his culture.
