Safe Place is a national youth outreach and prevention program for young people under the age of 18 (up to 21 years of age in some communities) in need of immediate help and safety.
Our mission at A Safe Place is to decrease domestic violence by providing victims, survivors, and their children with a safe shelter and resources to break the cycle of violence through outreach and education to at-risk populations and diverse communities.
A Safe Place provides emergency shelter, transitional housing, scattered-site transitional housing, and permanent supportive housing for survivors of domestic violence – men, women, and children who have been physically, verbally, or emotionally abused.
Here’s how Safe Place works: Step One – A young person enters a Safe Place and asks for help. Step Two – The site employee finds a comfortable place for the youth to wait while they call the licensed Safe Place agency.
A Safe Place provides shelter, permanent housing, court advocacy, referrals and comprehensive counseling programs for survivors of domestic violence – families who have been physically, verbally, or emotionally abused.
Carolyn Russell is the Executive Director of A Safe Place, the leading domestic violence assistance non-profit. As a community leader, an administrator and educator, she has served the public for over 30 years, specializing in non-profit management, fund development and strategic planning.
Celebrating the opening of our new community center—a two-story building on the border of Oakland and Berkeley that will help survivors of domestic violence access safe spaces for mental health treatment, support groups, legal assistance, domestic violence training, and other related services.
We’re Safe Place and we want to help. When teens find themselves in crisis or need a place to stay, they should know how and where to get help. Our nation’s young people deserve safety and shelter, and many youth feel they don’t have either. Thanks to Safe Place, immediate help is never too far away.
A Safe place provides Support and resources to overcome domestic abuse. The Strathcona Shelter Society operates an emergency shelter for women and children, a crisis and family violence information line, provides community outreach, and public education to end domestic violence in our community.
