Frustrated architect George Smith (Albert Finney) can't seem to find a creative outlet -- least of all in his own stifling assignments at work. After Smith and his wife, Alice (Yvette Mimieux), fail to find inspiration by rubbing elbows with the art community in San Francisco, they return to their apartment discouraged.
