Old Cowtown is a living history museum that lets you immerse yourself in the sights, sounds and activities common to a Midwestern cattle town. Hear the ring of the blacksmith anvil, sip an ice-cold sarsaparilla in the saloon and be transported back to the prairie lifestyle. Visit the museum 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
Our Mission. Old Cowtown Museum is an educational institution operated as an open-air living history museum dedicated to preserving and presenting the history of Wichita, Kansas through immersive experiences of life in the late 1800s.
Abilene, Ellsworth, Wichita, Dodge City, and Caldwell received the major portion of the booming cattle trade. Baxter Springs, Newton, Hunnewell, Great Bend, Hays, and Junction City achieved periods of brief success. The served as the major trail to many of the Kansas cowtowns.

Apr 1, 2017 · Elgin was a town that was established in 1869. It is located on the Kansas-Oklahoma state line and was once known as one of the largest cattle shipping cow towns in Kansas. And yes, it was where the Dalton Gang was known to hang out as well.
