The Egyptian. (film) The Egyptian is a 1954 American epic historical drama film made by 20th Century-Fox. Filmed in CinemaScope with color by DeLuxe, it was directed by Michael Curtiz and produced by Darryl F. Zanuck. It is based on Mika Waltari 's 1945 novel of the same name and the screenplay was adapted by Philip Dunne and Casey Robinson.

It enhances THE EGYPTIAN in an odd sort of way, much the same as the underlit noir pictures became appreciated later. (And there's a "noir epic" feel to THE EGYPTIAN that has been noted by others.) So the picture, for some of us, turns what might be minuses to plusses. If that sounds odd, the fact is THE EGYPTIAN is an odd movie from the get-go.
