Burton & Taylor is a BBC Four TV film written by William Ivory and directed by Richard Laxton, based on the legendary acting duo and former husband and wife, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, during their preparation for a 1983 theatrical production of the play, Private Lives.
Less than a year after the tawdry, critically reviled "Liz & Dick" premiered on Lifetime, "Burton and Taylor" makes its stateside premiere on BBC America, announcing its "loftier" artistic intentions right there in a title that promises a more refined approach that the Lindsay Lohan vehicle.

For her lifetime achievements, Taylor was honored with the AFI Life Achievement Award, the BAFTA Fellowship, the Cecil B. DeMille Award, the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award, and a medallion at the Kennedy Center Honors.
Taylor received the best reviews of her career for Woolf, winning her second Academy Award and several other awards for her performance. She and Burton divorced in 1974 but reconciled soon after, remarrying in 1975.
