First is that the film’s rugged leading man, the narrow-framed Jeff Chandler, is noticeably tall. At 6’4” with a cowboy hat and boots, standard doorways are clearly minor challenges.

MAN IN THE SHADOW is a bootleg version of HIGH NOON with a racial justice bent. Director Jack Arnold isn't much of a stylist, but it's always a pleasure to watch a black and white cinemascope film, even when it ends as anti-climactically as this one does.
