  3. A film about the Spanish Civil War made and released while the conflict was still raging, Blockade (1938) was quite controversial in its day. 4. 1. The comedy was sheepish. 2. The political aspect was sheepish. 3. A sheep would have been better cast in Henry Fonda's role. Henry Fonda was just not right for the part of a Spanish peasant. The acting was comically melodramatic and the dialogue was corny. Also the romance with Madeleine Carroll felt out of place.
