Mortimer Judd (Ralph Lewis) is a cold-hearted businessman who refuses to help his old friend Eugene (Josef Swickard) financially. The distraught, suicidal Eugene disappears, leaving Mortimer a copy of Dante's "The Inferno" to get Mortimer to change his ways. Mortimer reads the poem, but his behavior remains unchanged.
