The Beggar of Cawnpore is a 1916 American silent film directed by Charles Swickard and starring H.B. Warner, Lola May and Wyndham Standing. It is set against the backdrop of the 1857 Indian Mutiny.
British army doctor Robert Lowndes battles a cholera epidemic at a small fort in Cawnpore, India, in the 1850s. When he catches a fever he begins to take morphine in order to continue treating his patients. Unfortunately he becomes an addict.
She arrives in Cawnpore, and Lowndes, seeing her, decides to end his habit. Meanwhile, the Sepoy rebellion begins. Lowndes rescues Betty, and Douglas, sent to put down the uprising, turns traitor and is shot.
