After big-mouthed Hollywood nightclub entertainer Mike Donnelly (Mickey Rooney) is drafted into the army, he struggles to take military protocol seriously, but frequently clashes with his hard-nosed commanding officer, Sgt. Crockett (Gordon Jones).
