Dec 13, 1996 · Roger Ebert pans Tim Burton's parody of 1950s alien invasion movies, calling it a replica of tacky old saucer films. He criticizes the lack of humor, the excessive special effects and the actors' lack of commitment to the material.
Following the assassination attempt, the Martians commence a full-scale invasion of Earth, attacking major cities throughout the world. When Martian soldiers overrun the White House, First Lady Marsha (Glenn Close) Dale is killed by a falling chandelier as President Dale escapes to the PEOC.
