Devo (/ ˈ d iː v oʊ /, originally / d iː ˈ v oʊ /), often stylized as DEVO, is an American new wave band from Akron, Ohio, formed in 1973. Their classic line-up consisted of two sets of brothers, the Mothersbaughs (Mark and Bob) and the Casales (Gerald and Bob), along with Alan Myers.

Devo was an American new-wave band that took its name from devolution, the theory of humankind’s regression that informed the band’s music and stage act, which enjoyed success in the early 1980s. Devo adopted a man-as-machine persona and a heavy mechanical sound. The band’s best-known songs were ‘Whip It’ and ‘Through Being Cool.’
