Desperate to escape poverty, villager Dionosio Pinzón (Ernesto Gómez Cruz) restores an injured rooster to health. He then starts pitting it in cockfights, where the bird proves to be a fierce competitor. As the money begins rolling in, Dionosio abandons his humble roots and cultivates the trappings of wealth.
