During one of middle-aged housewife Evelyn Couch's (Bates) Wednesday nursing home visits, she encounters Ninny Threadgoode (Tandy, in an Oscar-nominated performance), a colourful old woman who brightens Evelyn's outlook by sharing tales from her past, giving her the confidence to change her own life for the better.
Fried Green Tomatoes. Evelyn Couch is having trouble in her marriage, and no one seems to take her seriously. While in a nursing home visiting relatives, she meets Ninny Threadgoode, an outgoing old woman, who tells her the story of Idgie Threadgoode, a young woman in 1920's Alabama.
