The film tells the story of three barnstorming skydivers and their effect on a Midwestern American town, focusing on the differences in values between the town folk and the hard-living skydivers.

Professional skydivers Mike Rettig, Joe Browdy, and Malcolm Webson arrive in Kansas to perform in the small town of Bridgeville. They are invited to stay at the home of Elizabeth and John Brandon, Webson's aunt and uncle. Suffocated by her loveless, childless marriage, Elizabeth finds herself attracted to Rettig.
