After wandering cowboy Red Ryder witnesses a wagon being hijacked near the gold rush town of Cripple Creek, Wyoming, he captures one of the outlaws with the help of his pal, Little Beaver. At a ranchers' meeting at Long John Lacey's saloon, a miner named Baker is nominated for the job of marshal.

Overview. Tom Lambert arrives and Long John Case gets him into trouble. To protect his wife and son he refuses to talk and is sent to prison. Long John then gets Lambert's son into his outlaw gang but Lambert is told the boy's problems are caused by Red Ryder. So Lambert breaks prison planning to kill Red.
