The Barnes Foundation is an art collection and educational institution promoting the appreciation of art and horticulture.
Our Mission. The mission of the Barnes is to promote the advancement of education and the appreciation of the fine arts and horticulture. Our founder, Dr. Albert C. Barnes, believed that art had the power to improve minds and transform lives.
Created in 1922, the Barnes Foundation originated with Dr. Albert Barnes’ mission to foster cognitive development through new approaches to education and to heighten critical-thinking and problem-solving skills through the study of art.
