The Old Operating Theatre Museum and Herb Garret at 9a St Thomas Street is a museum of surgical history and one of the oldest surviving operating theatres. It is located in the garret of St Thomas's Church , Southwark , in London , on the original site of St Thomas' Hospital .
The Church is the oldest surviving part of St Thomas’ Hospital’s Southwark site. The space once served as a garret for the hospital’s apothecary to dry herbs required for medicines. In 1822, the garret was modified to include a women’s operating theatre linked to the neighbouring Dorcas Ward.
