Lockheed Martin successfully demonstrated its next-generation Extended-Range GMLRS (ER GMLRS) in a flight test at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, firing the round from the U.S. Army’s HIMARS® launcher.
The GMLRS has a minimum engagement range of 15 km (9.3 mi) and can hit a target out to 70 km (43 mi), impacting at a speed of Mach 2.5. In 2009 Lockheed Martin announced that a GMLRS had been successfully test fired out to 92 km (57 mi).

Mar 7, 2024 · Lockheed Martin has produced more than 70,000 GMLRS rounds and is under annual contract to continue production of GMLRS unitary and alternative-warhead rockets including integrated logistics support for the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps and international customers.
Aerojet Rocketdyne, a segment of L3Harris Technologies, produces the solid propellant rocket motor for the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS). GMLRS fires surface-to-surface rockets and has been highly effective in recent combat operations.
The GMLRS is comprised of three fielded variants: DPICM, Unitary, and AW. The proposed ER GMLRS ECP expands the rocket motor diameter to increase range, modifies the control section for enhanced maneuverability, and incorporates a side-mounted proximity sensor to enable higher height-of-burst.
