Gonçalo Velho Cabral was born as the son of Pedro Velho de Travassos and Catarina Afonso. He married Catarina Alvares de Benevides about 1490. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 3 daughters. He died in 1538, in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, Azores, Portugal.
