David Alexander Edward Lindsay, 27th Earl of Crawford and 10th Earl of Balcarres, KT, PC, DL, FRS, FSA (10 October 1871 – 8 March 1940), styled Lord Balcarres or Lord Balniel between 1880 and 1913, was a British Conservative politician and art connoisseur.
Overview. Art historian of Italian Renaissance sculpture, reformer of the South Kensington Museum, and politician. Lindsay was the son of James Ludovic Lindsay, twenty-sixth earl of Crawford and ninth earl of Balcarres (1847-1913) and Emily Florence (Bootle-Wilbraham) Lindsay (1848-1934).

David Lindsay, created Earl of Crawford in 1398, inherited property in Forfarshire (Glenesk, etc) and Lanarkshire (the lordships of Crawford and Lindsay) and by the mid-15th century his descendants had extended the Forfarshire property and settled at Finhaven.
