In 1990, Regina Peruggi became the first lay president of Marymount Manhattan College. She helped strengthen the financial position of the College during her term, which ended in 2001. During her eleven year presidency, Peruggi doubled enrollment to the College.
Giuliani married Regina Peruggi, his second cousin, whom he had known since childhood, on October 26, 1968. The marriage was in trouble by the mid-1970s and they agreed to a trial separation in 1975. Peruggi did not accompany him to Washington when he accepted the job in the Attorney General's Office.
